SEO Tips to Plan For In 2018

Search engines continuously strive to offer users better and ever more targeted set of results. Businesses searchable on the internet must be vigilant in obtaining a current understanding of how SEO operates today, and which way it may be trending for tomorrow. A new year is just around the corner, and here are some paths SEO appears to be treading. Use this most recent SEO map to plan your 2018 marketing journey.

SERP Usurps Organic Ranking

As SEO evolves, what was once king now shares the table. Vying for the attention of the consumer is no longer a simple ranking game, as the features of a Search Engine Results Page (SERP) make the list of blue headings somewhat obsolete. SERP grabs attention with intriguing, useful, and local text and graphics.

Being a member of the local pack, finding yourself on a knowledge panel, and having your information displayed in a rich or featured snippet on the SERP is the current game changer. Algorithms improve regularly, and if you use structured data to markup the content on your site, you gain control over what the search engine sees and interprets as it crawls. Your customers find what they need, and you are the answer because you explain the connection in a way the search engine understands and shares.

Structured Data

So, what does providing structured data entail? Find a structured data format you or your web team can embrace and implement it. Your goal is to make what you offer outshine your competition. There are many formats available, but only you can choose the best fit. The key is starting the markup process and then sticking to it, tweaking as you go along to improve the results.

Slow And Steady Loses This Race

The individuals who seek products and services value speed. Page loading speed is of major relevance to a good user experience (UX) and pushes your rankings higher. The faster the load, the better the UX. The better the UX, the higher the ranking. Do you see a pattern here?

Google looks for a load speed of fewer than 3 seconds per page. If you are not there, fix it.

Quality Content

Underlying all the tactics you can use to make your site rank higher is the quality of the content you feature on it. Google evaluates content different ways, including Latent Semantic Indexing. This search engine is always on the lookout for terms and connections and reviews everything available on the internet concerning the content you offer. It looks for comprehensive content, using its expectation of terms it finds useful because of its wide-ranging “reads” of the available information in your niche. Improve our content not only by making it relevant and useful, but also make sure it covers all the bases search engines find on similar sites. Find a tool to analyze the words and phrases used top ranking sites among your competitors and begin your edits.

Voice Search And Mobile Friendliness

Flying fingers (and thumbs) are fading fast. Voice search is increasing, overtaking the digits for younger users and gaining in adult searchers. Why does it matter? Voice searches are more conversational, in stark contrast to the often stilted strings of typed queries. Changing with the times requires researching the types of questions asked via voice. Fortunately, there are tools for that.

While you react to the voice search uptick, also be mindful of mobile. Review your pages for mobile compatibility using a content analysis tool. Today’s users want information fast, with just a verbal prompt. If what they see on the smaller screen does not inform immediately, without resizing and horizontal scrolling, they are on to your competitor who meets these desires.

Links Without Chains

Mentions without links are no longer considered untrustworthy. Authority of a site now builds with simple brand mentions, and major search engines are using unlinked mentions for rankings. Discover linkless mentions of your brands, services, and products using one of several apps that monitor the web for just this purpose.

Personalized SERP: Friend Or Foe?
The search engines increasingly tailor SERP for each seeker. This need not spell doom for your ability to attract new customers. Strive to rank among the top few results a new client sees and then clicks, and then expect later inquiries to reflect this by your site moving to the top. Take steps to make certain your unbiased ranking is accurate by using a rank tracker tool. Doing it yourself? Use only incognito or private browsing.

Higher ranking in the search engines’ results = more traffic = more sales = more profit

In order to make its place among the results on the top page of Google, your site has to be SEO optimized. That’s where all the magic happens. So if you are not one of those guys who are secretly praying to Google for higher ranking before going to bed, then below you can find a bag of free SEO tips and tricks that might prove useful. The advices are divided into two articles and are only briefly described because if I have to fall into all the details and specifics, not two but twenty articles will be needed. What is more all the 10 SEO factors are equally important and their order was randomly chosen.

1. Profound Keyword Research.

Profound keyword research First think about the niche that your site is going to target and then start the keyword exploration. Using tools like the Google Keyword AdWords Tool is really credential. It shows all the keyword combinations that gravitate around yours and provide a set of useful metrics like rank of the keyword, global monthly searches and local monthly searches.
You better concentrate on the so called long-tail keywords (combinations of 4-5-6 words) because they will bring to your site more qualitative traffic. Long-tails are less looked for and therefore are easy to compete for. Furthermore if someone finds your site through them he/she will be more probable to stay longer and even make a purchase.

A good SEO trick is to include the Keyword Sugegstions from the search engines. 70% of the users are more likeable to click one of the suggestions that pops up after starting to write their query so if you are betting on long-tail optimization definitely help yourself with tools like the SEOggestor.

2. Regular site vs the WordPress platform.

Wordpress site platformSEO tip number two is the dispute – regular or WP site? Seriously barely anyone decides to create a site for internet business from the scratch. What is gaining more popularity is the WordPress platform that has many benefits and offers beautiful themes. Simply buy a domain, install WordPress on it and it is all ready. Search engines and their bots “like” WP sites more because they are better organized and are easier to crawl. Moreover there are numerous WP plug-ins that might prove to be very useful. On the other hand if you still are not ready to opt for the WP and are not SEO-experienced, then contact an expert in order everything to be done the way it has to be done.

3. Analyze and be SEO aware!
analyze and be seo awareThe Search Engine Optimization is not something that is done one time and then lasts forever. In the ranking charts everything is extremely dynamic and if you don’t follow a set of certain SEO metrics concerning your site, than success will be hardly achievable. Knowing whether you are becoming more or less popular or whether you are gaining or losing positions is very important. I handy tool that I would recommend you for constantly checking the SEO status of your site is the SEOAuditor! Google Page Rank and the Alexa Ranking is what should be more carefully followed. If you want to keep an eye on who is visiting the site and how much time is being spent on it than Google Analytics is what you need.

4. Social medias and their great SEO potential!

social medias and their seo potentialSocial medias and webs have become so popular and widely used that search engines are starting to pay more and more attention to them. If you have a Facebook page with 100k likes or a video on YouTube with 50k views this would give your site a substantial boost in the ranking positions. What is more such mediums with so many users are the perfect places for popularizing your brand and attracting more prospective customers. Of course don’t believe that if you have 1000 followers on Facebook, when sharing something it will reach them all. It has been proven that only 15%-20% of your total audience is reached and if you want your posts to be more widely spread, they should be promoted, for certain amount of money. Not very nice but as in everything else – in order to make some profit first you have to invest and believe me, social medias can do miracles when taking the matter to generating more site traffic.

5. Let your users share and make you more popular!

social medias website panelsApart from being socially active, there is one more thing that should be done as long as social webs and medias are concerned – let your users be socially active while browsing your site. This can again be easily done with a WordPress plug-in like in our site. Scroll down the page and check out our social panel for the most popular sites where sharing really matters. Every user that clicks on this panel creates valuable backlinks and link juice for the site that will be taken into account by the search engines while examining and evaluating the shared page/s. Furthermore when someone shares/tweets a link it becomes available to thousands of other people who are again prospective clients. What is more, social webs have become smarter and if someone has shown an interest at your site in Facebook, after a while your posts might start to pop-up into his news feed automatically and therefore keep him aware of your new products or recent updates. This is a really good way to build up a strong community behind the site. If you want constantly to check your social SEO metrics SEOAuditor again will provide you with the number of Facebook likes, Tweets and Google+ shares of a particular URL.
Five SEO tips for improving your Organic Ranking

1. Identify Target Keywords
Conduct keyword research using tools such as Google AdWords Keyword Planner, WordStream or Wordtracker to determine which keywords are most relevant to your target audience. Including keywords that are meaningful to your target audience is fundamental to optimizing your visibility in search engine results.

2. Perfect Your On-Page Optimization
Once you’ve identified your target keywords, ensure that they are included, whenever possible, throughout each of your site’s pages – particularly, in the URLs, title tag, body text, meta description, header tags and image ALT attributes. Using an on-page grading plugin, such as WordPress SEO by Yoast, HubSpot’s Marketing Grader or Moz On-Page Grader, is a great way to see how your on-page optimization stacks up. Then, you can adjust your site’s pages accordingly to further improve your ranking.

3. Develop a Content Strategy
Search engines favor websites that are regularly updated with fresh, high-quality content. One way to do this is by ensuring your website contains a blog. Develop content that provides meaningful value to your end user, and then promote the content via social media. This will help drive more traffic back to your website.

4. Attract Quality Links
Another way to optimize your website is by attracting high-quality links through methods such as guest blogging, creation of useful or interesting content, infographic distribution or promotion of an event. Focus on the quality, rather than quantity, of links you’re attracting from sites that are relevant to your business or industry.

5. Monitor Your Site’s Performance
Once you’ve optimized your site for improved search engine ranking, you’ll need to continuously monitor your site’s performance using an analytics tool, such as Google Analytics, to determine which keywords and traffic sources are producing the most conversions. This data will help identify the best keywords to target and which keywords aren’t generating results. You can also utilize this free website auditing tool to help increase conversions on your website and generate more sales leads.
Top Blogging SEO Tips

Focus on Long-Tail Keywords – Not Generic Ones.

When writing content for your blog or corporate site, it is very important not to jam a ton of keywords into a single blog post. Instead, focus on 1-2 keywords for each ariticle. It’s best to limit your amount of keywords to this number because 1) search engines like google and bing will actually penalize your post if it looks like you are jamming tons of keywords, and 2) it will keep you focused on a goal for your article or post. Of course more than one keyword may appear in your post; but the overall goal of the post should be focused enough to allow you to spend more time optimizing for just one or two targeted keywords.

Long-tail keywords may also be more efficient to use since your website visitors searching long-tail terms will often be more qualified then users searching for a generic term.

Where are the most SEO juicy parts of your posts to include these terms so you rank high in google? There are 4 important places where you should try to include your keywords:

a) Page Title

The title of your blog post should for sure include your keywords, but try to keep your long-tail keyword under 80 characters. The title of your article will be a search engine’s and reader’s first step in determining how relevant and important your content is, so including a keyword here is imperative.

b) Body

Mention your keywords at a normal pace throughout your post — don’t jam it in as many times as you possible can. Search engines like google will penalize any post they believe is using keyword mentions too many times for a particular keyword, so this requires close attention in your writing process.

c) URL

Search engines also look at your URL to figure out what your post is about. Your URL should reflect your title and content, so make sure the keywords you use are relevant to the article. If you have to trim your article URL down, make sure you keep your keywords in it.

d) Meta Description
Later in this blog article, we will get deeper into explaining meta descriptions. Your meta description is there to give search engines and your website users information about your blog post’s content. So be sure to use your long-tail term clearly here so Google and your website audience are well aware of the post’s content, but also keep in mind that how engaging the content matters for your conversion rates.

Include Meta Optimizations.

Meta optimization is not limited just to meta descriptions. Your page meta description is the additional text that appears on the search results that lets the user know what the link is all about.

meta-description
The meta description is important because it gives your readers information they need to decide whether or not your content is what they are looking for.

Your meta description should include the long-tail keyword you are trying to rank on google for, because if you are doing blogging right, it’s representative of the contents of your article.

Optimize your Images.

Your blog posts should not only contain text for SEO targeting – you should also have images that help explain your page content. Search engines don’t just look for images they look for images with alt text embedded in them.

You can figure out an image’s alt text by placing your cursor over an image and a small box will appear that describes your image

Don’t use too many Headings.

Headings can help organize your blog content but you can overuse them and then they can actually be harmful to your rankings. If you have too many similar headings you will be penalized by search engines for having duplicate content.

Use URL structures that help your visitors.

The URL structure of your website should make it very simple for your visitors to understand the structure of your site and what content they are trying to find. Search engines love URL structures that make it simple for them and your website users to understand the content of that page.

For exmaple: “forcefive.ca/blog/ottawa-seo-tips-for-website-owners” makes much more sense then “forcefive.ca/blog?=askjfnejnferiuf87yr4r”
SEO can be a little hard to understand, especially since key strategies change as the search engines change, but the basic purpose of SEO is always to have your business visible on the web when people look for you. Here are five of the most basic but essential tips for effective SEO.

Tip #1 Know Your Keywords
In order to get traffic, you must know what to target. Find what keywords generate traffic from your clients and make sure they are present on your website. They should appear in the meta tags, page names, URLs, and content. Don't insert keywords where it would sound unnatural. Always write for humans, not search engines.

Start with a short list of what your clients use to find you. This could be very general, such as “optometrist,” or more specific, such as “custom designer frames.” Also, look at your competitors. Are they using prominent wording that is relevant to your business? You can check the search volume (potential clients) using online tools such as wordtracker.com. This will give you an idea of what terms are both targeted and producing sufficient traffic.

Once you have a short list make sure your site contains your main keywords in the page titles, headings, and meta description.

Tip #2 Content
Content is the most important part of your site. It is critical to have well-written content that is interesting and useful, as well as keyword rich. When writing the content, remember to sound natural. Try to use your keywords sparingly, generally not more than once a paragraph.

If you have multiple keywords to target, don’t try to cram them all into your homepage. The home page should be for your most important terms only. Create individual pages that can be optimized for more specific terms and products. For example, if you offer 5 specific services create a keyword rich page for each.

Tip #3 Social Media
Social Media has become increasingly important in SEO. A good social media presence can generate referral traffic through links and reviews and keep existing clients engaged. You should have regularly updated and accurate business pages for Facebook, Google+, and Twitter.

Encourage your clients to review your site on their preferred social media and keep them engaged with updates, offers, and regular posts. Reviews are important for being competitive in local search and helping clients decide to choose you.

Tip #4 Directories
Having your info accurate on Yahoo, Yelp, etc. is important for local search. Inconsistent information could keep clients from finding you and can negatively affect your search ranking. Also keep an eye out for industry specific directories, such as healthgrades.com and vitals.com for doctors.

Do an audit of popular directories and see if they have your business name, address, phone number, hours, and website correct. Many of these are automated and can have incorrect or outdated information.

Tip #5 Update Regularly
Keeping fresh content on your website has become increasingly important. You should have a new blog post or content update at least once a month to show that the site is being maintained. This is important to keep the site from being static and out of date for users and also to show its value to the search engines.

Source: Imatrix Bloh

4 On-Page SEO Techniques To Help Boost Your Rankings

Are you a small online business owner that is looking at improving your rankings on the search engines? If not you should be because the most effecient way to grow your business online is through search engine optimization. There are two ways you will want to optimize your website for the search engines and those are “off-page SEO” and “on-page SEO”. Off-page SEO consists of things like link building, guest blogging, etc. This is very important when trying to rank on the search engines however, for this blog we are going to concentrate on on-site search engine optimization. So what are some onsite SEO techniques you can use to boost your rankings? Well, our Phoenix SEO company came up with 4 techniques that we believe you should concentrate on when you are attempting to optimize your website for SEO.

Content

If you have done any type of SEO before did you really think that something would come before content? Content truly is king when it comes to SEO and it is not going to be losing it’s thrown on top anytime soon. There are certain factors that make up good content and will help you rank better. Your content must be original. If you think that the search engines are going to rank you because you are able to copy content from another website you are crazy. I know it takes time to produce original content for your website but this is a must. You must make sure that you are not allowing someone else to post your content on their website first or the search engines will view it as their content. Make sure that you post the content on your website first. Your content has to be useful and relevant. The search engines are trying to make it so that when somebody searches a keyword only the most relevant websites pull up. Last but not least is the frequency at which you post your content. You can’t write a bunch of content one month and then not post new updated content for a year. This will end up hurting you in the rankings. One way to make sure you continuously update your content is by having a blog on your website.

Page Titles and Descriptions

When the search engine bots are crawling your page one of the first thing they read is the page titles and descriptions. They do this because they need to know what your website is about. This will help them begin to classify where your website will fall in the rankings and for what keywords. The page titles are what is going to help not only the search engines but also the user know what page they are on and what it is about. That is why each page title must be unique. The description is what a user is going see on the search engines when they find your website so this must be very descriptive.

URL Structure

This is basic on page optimization and yet there are many websites that miss this. What do I mean when I am talkinga bout URL structure. Well I am talking about the permalinks. You want to setup the permalinks so that they make sense. You don’t want a web link like this www.hireawiz.com/23231/about/1232312312 It should be www.hireawiz.com/about-us for example. How is your content grouped? It should be grouped into categories to help the search engines and users find different pages on your website. Don’t forget your pages sitemap. This is very important.

Internal Linking

Make sure that you are linking pages within your website. This is important because it help the search engine bots crawl your pages more effectively. If done correctly this will tell the search engines which pages on your website are most important and which ones are least important.
These are 4 ways that you can effectively optimize your website for the search engines. Off page SEO is extremely important but it can all go for not if you don’t properly optimize your on page seo.

Google Maps Revamps Quality Guidelines For Local Pages

What has changed with the new Google local page quality guidelines?

"Google Maps has updated their local pages quality guidelines last night. Jade Wang from the Google team posted the news in the Google Forums saying:
We’ve updated and clarified our quality guidelines for local pages. Please read the new version here, and, as always, feel free to contact our support team with any specific questions about your account."

There are a couple local SEO experts that have dug through the old guidelines to compare it to the new guidelines. I saved a screen shot of the old guidelines, which you can see over here.

Mike Blumenthal documented the “obvious changes” including:

Descriptors of any sort are NOT allowed

Categories should be the more specific category and NOT the overarching, general category

Increased name and category consistency amongst multi location chains

Two or more brands at the same location must pick one name

If Different departments are to have their own page they must have unique categories

Practitioner’s pages, in multi location practices should have their name only and not the name of the practice

Solo Practitioners only can use the format of Practice: Practitioner

Virtual Offices are NOT allowed unless staffed.

Google Maps local have always been somewhat of the “wild west” of the search space. So many are asking, despite these guidelines, will Google actually have the man power and resources to actually enforce these rules?

6 WordPress Tips and Tricks for SEO

One of the advantages of having a WordPress blog is that it simplifies many of your tasks, including search engine optimization (SEO). There are many ways to customize WordPress blogs to make them more SEO friendly. Best of all, most of the methods that accomplish this are very simple. What follows are some of the best tips for optimizing your WordPress site for the search engines.

SEO Experts in Mumbai - India - Vickeemore

Start With Keyword Research

Keyword research is always one of the first steps to take when it comes to SEO. These are the words that you are trying to rank for, so you must choose them carefully. You can use free keyword tools like Wordtracker or the Google Keyword Tool to find out what people in your niche are searching for.

Another effective way to find keywords is even simpler. You simply start typing words into Google search and see what phrases are suggested. These may not always be appropriate, but you can then put these phrases through other keyword tools to see how popular they are.

You should think about keywords right from the start, before you even purchase your domain. The title of your blog should contain your main keywords, and they should also be used in your blog description. Naturally, you also want to focus on them with all of your posts and pages as well.

Use the Right Permalink Structure

This refers to the URL of your blog posts.

The default permalink structure is something like this: www.myblog/123?. This is not helpful for SEO purposes, as there are no keywords in your post’s URL.

You can remedy this by going to your WordPress Settings and clicking on Permalink Structure. There you will find several choices. You can click on the choice for Post Title, or you can click on Custom Structure and put in /%postname% so that your actual post name is included in the URL. For this to be effective, you have to think about the keywords you use in all of your post titles.

Use Plugins for WordPress SEO

There are lots of plugins that can help with WordPress SEO, but a couple are practically mandatory.

Google XML Sitemap

This free plugin will create a sitemap so that Google and other search engines will index your site more quickly and effectively. This plugin notifies the search engines whenever you post to your blog, so it’s working on your behalf all the time.

Check out Google XML Sitemap plugin.

All in One SEO Pack

This is another free plugin that can help a great deal with WordPress SEO. One important function of this plugin is that it automatically makes all of your title tags more SEO friendly. It also generates meta tags automatically and ensures that the search engines don’t penalize your site for duplicate content.

All in One SEO Pack has many features that are customizable. For example, if you have an e-commerce site, you can make sure that all of your products and pages are optimized so people can easily find your products through the search engines.

Optimize Your Images

When you use images in your blog posts, you should make they are as SEO friendly as possible. You can do this by customizing the image title and the Alt-tags. Remember that the search engines don’t notice actual images, only the descriptions that accompany them. On top of that, always name your image’s filename with descriptive keywords.

You can use your chosen keywords when you put in the name of the image and in the Alt-tag. This will make it easier for the search engines to locate all of your images.

Make Sure Your Blog Loads Quickly

Having your blog load quickly is not only important for attracting visitors, it also has SEO value. The search engines will penalize a site that loads too slowly. You will also lose many visitors this way!

Many sites load slowly because they are bogged down with applications, images, plugins and other features that slow them down. You have to find the right balance when setting up your blog. Some plugins are very helpful for SEO, but having too many plugins of any kind ends up slowing down your site. Similarly, images can make your blog appealing but if they are too large they will make your site sluggish.

Use Internal Linking on Your Blog

When you link to other pages and posts in your blog you are adding SEO value to your site. This is also a good way to keep visitors on your site longer (and thus reduce your blog’s bounce rate).

When you write a new blog post, see if there are any older posts that are related to the same topic. If so, put a link to the older post in the new one. This gives the search engines a chance to index your older content as well as the newer!

SEO is Simple With WordPress
The above are just some of the best tips to better optimize your blog with the search engines. WordPress is set up to be as user friendly as possible, and there are many ways you can customize it for SEO purposes.

You shouldn’t get carried away with things like SEO plugins, however. As I mentioned, having too many plugins can slow down your site. A few basic ones, however, can work wonders and save you from having to perform tasks manually.

There are some other common sense tips you should remember as well, such as providing quality content and updating your blog frequently. A blog that is only updated once per month is going to have a hard time ranking no matter what other steps you take!

With persistence, you will find that WordPress provides the ideal environment to create sites that are loved by visitors and search engines alike.

As the value of the new post goes up, the value of the link goes up too. Also, if anyone does copy/republish your content then at least you’ll have at least one link back to your site.

Linking old content to new content

It’s great to link to older articles, but what about linking older articles to your new content? This is just as important to consider. You have some older articles that Google has probably already indexed and, if it’s a good article, you will have got links to it. This means their value has gone up.

You can now link from these older articles to your newer posts.

This gives your new article a little boost and it also helps Google to find it. As Google is re-indexing your content, it will follow links within your posts.

2. Resolve Errors in Google Webmaster Tools

Imagine if Google crawled your site and, when it found any issues or problems, it told you about them.

“Hey Guys, I’ve just found some problems on your site and if you don’t fix them it will mean that I’m not going to send you as much traffic as I was going to!”

Of course, you don’t get that personal email from Google, but Google does put any errors/problems into Google Webmaster Tools.

3. Review content that is not ranking

What about content you’ve written recently that is not ranking?

Perhaps you thought that you would get a ton of links and you could rank in Google for a competitive term, but then this didn’t happen.

Well, maybe you could go back and tweak the post to try to rank for different keywords? Or you could write a guest post on a high-profile site and link to this content? Or add links from existing content on your website?

4. Consider Related Keywords

When you write a blog post and try to optimize it for keywords, it’s great when you start to get regular ongoing traffic for those keywords. But what also normally happens is that you end up getting even more traffic for keywords that are similar to the ones you tried to rank for.

So, it’s important to consider these related keywords in your posts. I’m not talking about adding keywords for the sake of it, but if Google thinks they are related to your main keyword targets, then consider adding them if they add value to your content.

5. Leverage tools to help with SEO

There are many tools that can help you with different aspects of the optimization of your content, so you really need to have a small collection of them. Here are some examples of tools I use on a regular basis.

SEMRush – This shows the terms your competitor is ranking for, what you are ranking for, helps you with keyword research and much more.

Google Keyword Planner – When you want to do keyword research, this is essential to review. Google will give you an estimate of traffic for the keywords you search for and for associated keywords.

Yoast SEO Plugin – If you’re on WordPress, you need this plugin. It’s the best plugin for optimizing your content for Google. It’s simple to use and very effective.

Opensite Explorer – It’s important to understand about the proprietary website and web page ranking system implemented by Moz. Your website is ranked out of 100 using a domain authority ranking and your pages are ranked out of 100 also. This tool shows you this data so that you can consider it when trying to compete against other websites.

Moz Toolbar – When you do a Google search, this toolbar adds the domain and page authority onto each search result. Consider using two browsers: one for normal searching and one that has Moz toolbar installed. You can use this one when you are doing your SEO work.

Ahrefs – I use this mainly for analyzing the link profiles of our site and our competitors’ sites.

6. Strategic guest posting

If you have a post that is ranking well and getting some traffic, this may be a post that you want to keep topping up with new links.

The new links to the post will help it maintain its standing in Google search results, but you may also push it up the search results if it’s not currently in the number one position.

One way of doing this is through guest posting. Write an article that is relevant to the content you have, and include a link to the article you want to promote. This helps drive traffic to the post but it will also help with the ranking of the post. Because the link is relevant and adds value to the content that you are guest posting about, you’ll generally get away with adding the link!

7. Write long content

Is this really about optimizing content for SEO? Yes, absolutely. So, why write long content?

If you can write super high-quality short articles, then write them. But typically it’s very difficult to provide a lot of value in a short article, so they don’t tend to get many links or shares. Without these, you won’t have much of a chance of ranking for this content.

I read a recent post from the wonderful Andy Crestodina on the importance of the length of blog posts, tweets, Facebook updates etc. In his article he presented research on the average content length for search results in the top 10.

7 Tips for Better Social Media Time Management

One of the biggest complaints I hear from business owners is that they struggle with social media time management. Managing your social media marketing looks overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Use these tips to keep your time spent on social media under control.

1. Before you launch any kind of marketing campaign, figure out your goal for it. Do you want to increase your visibility? Have people contact you for a consultation? Position yourself as an expert? Decide what you want out of the campaign then tailor your actions to achieve that goal.

2. Know where your people are. Spend your time on the networking sites that your audience is using. It’s tempting to assume that they are on Facebook because everyone is on Facebook, but that may not be the case for your ideal clients. Some business owners find Twitter to be a better fit for their audiences. Your audience may be on LinkedIn. It may take some time up front to find out where your clients are, but it’s worth the effort.

3. Don’t try to be on every network out there. Pick social media networks to fit your goal. Quora, for example, will showcase expertise while LinkedIn presents you as a buttoned-up professional. Pinterest is a good choice if there is a visual component to your work. Focus your time on one or two networks. Remember that you can’t be everywhere at once.

4. Schedule updates in advance whenever possible. Use a tool like Buffer or Hootsuite to schedule your Tweets or status updates. Facebook also allows you to schedule updates in advance. You can post multiple times a day, but you only have to login once a day to look for replies or comments.

5. Create an editorial calendar. Invest the time once a quarter to plan your social media activities. Choose a topic for the month or week and base your activities around that topic. Planning ahead will ensure that your social media time is focused strategically on meeting your goals. This is especially important if you are using content marketing (which you should be doing as an important part of your online marketing strategy and SEO). It will also help you to avoid having to figure out each day what you will post on your Facebook page or what you will tweet about.

6. Set a time limit. It’s amazing how time can disappear when you’re on social media… you may log into your Facebook account with the intent of updating your business Facebook page only to find, 20 minutes later, that you still haven’t done so. If you find yourself getting sucked into social media, reading every tweet and following every link, you may find it helpful to set a limit on your social media time. Decide how much time you have and focus on activities that bring you closer to your goal. Just because you are logged in to a networking site, it doesn’t mean you are doing things to bring you closer to your goals.

7. Use alerts, lists and other tools to stay in the loop. Set up a Google alert so you know when someone talks about you, your business, or a topic of interest to you. (Google alerts is a service that allows you to identify a search query and then receive an email that notifies you when new content is published online about that term.) Twitter allows you to create lists so you can see what the people you are most interested in are saying. Use the interests option on Facebook to watch people and pages that are important to you.

Social media doesn’t have to be draining. Set a goal for your marketing efforts and make sure your activities are targeted toward that goal.
Link Building is one of the conditions that Search Engines considers, it checks if other websites across the web sees your website as quality source of information.
Links today are mainly achieved through the development or writing of original, valid and interesting content which are in turn shared across the social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Stumble, Digg, Reddit or even YouTube. Shared links on the social platforms helps the search engine understand what website are credible and should be ranked for their keyword phrase. Sharing content on social media will not only increase your traffic from audience on each social channel but from search engines over and over.
For example, a post and link that is share on Facebook and tweeted several times will have a higher visibility in search engines than those that are done only once since many have shared it on their networks.

The higher the links of pages to your website, the quicker the search engines index your content in ranking.

Increase Social Connections and Followers

10 crucial SEO tips for ecommerce stores

1. Don’t Rely Only on Pay Per Click (But Also Don't Forget it)

While many ecommerce sites fall back on a pay per click (PPC) strategy to create visibility for their store, the truth is that PPC costs continue to go up and once you stop paying for placement, your online presence disappears.
Also, some customers have an inherent distrust of sponsored links, banners, and other online ads. Ecommerce stores cannot solely rely on a PPC strategy and need to also implement organic SEO practices to help with their online visibility.

That said, recent Google research shows that when some web sites stopped using AdWords, 89% of the paid clicks did not shift over to organic, SEO clicks. So make sure you do use pay per click in addition to SEO.

2. Avoid Duplicate Content

Duplicate content is the enemy for search engines. However, since many ecommerce stores have a large amount of duplicate content as a result of product descriptions and lists, ecommerce sites tend to get penalized by search engines.
Therefore, online store owners need to assess their website and look for ways to reduce the amount of redundant and duplicate content that is present on their website. Careful usage of the rel="canonical" tag can help avoid these problems as well.

Shopify themes can automatically insert the rel="canonical" tag on all pages using one line of code. Learn how to use canonical URLs with Shopify.

3. Have a Content Strategy

Consistently adding unique and high quality content on a regular basis to your ecommerce site will not only add additional value for users, it will also help with your search engine ranking. Consider using your and add content that's related to the products and services that you sell.

All Shopify stores automatically include a fully functioning blogging platform that you can use to publish such content.

4. Don’t use the Manufacturer Product Descriptions

Building your product database can be a time consuming process, and in an attempt to save time, many online store owners simply copy and paste the manufacturer’s product descriptions onto their website.

This is an SEO no-no! Always re-write every single product description to ensure that it is unique and search engine friendly. Remember to use several words that people are most likely to search for.

5. Optimize Product Images

Image search has become a very popular function that internet users are increasingly using to find products online. Therefore, ecommerce websites need to add related keywords into the ALT tags of every image on their website. Here's a blog post on how to setup ALT tags on Shopify.

For optimal effect, make sure that every keyword used for an image is directly relevant and avoid stuffing keywords into the alt tags.

6. Have Unique Meta Descriptions for Every Webpage

When it comes to onsite optimization, many ecommerce stores think that it's enough to use the same meta descriptions for each page. However, this is another SEO faux-pas! The meta description should be written for humans with the goal of helping your store get clicked once it shows up in search engines.

Shopify themes can automatically generate meta descriptions for each page. Click here to learn more.

7. Include Product Reviews

Since unique content is extremely important when it comes to SEO, having a field for users to add their product reviews is a great passive way to generate unique content for your ecommerce store.

The Shopify App Store includes several great product review apps for your store.

8. Link to your Products from the Home Page

A common error made by many ecommerce sites is burying their product pages deep within their link structure. This will not only make it more difficult for users to find products, it will also impact the product pages PageRank score, making those pages less likely to appear high in search.

Having product content only a link away from your home page will make them easier for both the search engines as well as your customers.

9. Optimize the Anchor Text

Adding keywords to the internal links on your website will help to enhance your stores visibility in search engines. Rather than using the typical “click here” link, link from text that includes the keywords the page you are linking to is trying to rank for. For example, instead of writing "click here to visit Shopify, the best ecommerce platform," write "visit Shopify, the best ecommerce platform."

Also, consider adding keyword rich links within the product descriptions to link to other similar products on your website.

10. Organize your Online Store for SEO

The way that you structure your store will impact its visibility. Consider structuring your e-commerce store so that it includes a number of landing pages. These pages can be specific to a brand or product type. Doing this gives you the opportunity to optimize for multiple pages and keyword groups, which will increase your site's visibility in search.

Shopify includes content management (CMS) functionality, such as the ability for you to create such pages.

Social Networking

Social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are not only free to use, but they can help you reach thousands of potential customers. People tend to participate and become interested in a new brand, if they know there is a live person behind the brand. Personally write newsletters and address the individual in all of your correspondence. Provide expert advice, listen to what is being said by the customer on your social networking sites and address their concerns, questions and praise.

Google Rankings

The majority of businesses understand the importance of getting in the top Google rankings. One of the easiest ways to complete this task is through consistent and quality content. Write content that provides interesting and relevant information. Use keywords and links that are relevant to the content. Add shareable links to all of your social networking sites, which will drive traffic to your site as well as improve your Google rankings.

Giveaways

People love to get free things, but they also love to see others get free things. Creating a contest or a giveaway is a great way to get people talking about your business. Not only do people love to win stuff, but they also love to give to the needy, so consider organizing a charity giveaway. Advertise an event on your website and social networking sites and encourage customers to participate. You could host an auction where a percentage of the sales go to the chosen charity or pick a week where a percentage of all sales go to a charity.

Mobile Advertising

Mobile devices are quickly becoming the most popular sources of web traffic. Make sure your website is designed to be “mobile friendly” and take advantage of free advertising by texting a coupon or send a text offering a discount to the first 50 people who respond to your text.

Visual Marketing

People love to visually see what it is your marketing. Create a video to post on the internet and make it informative. In other words, do not simply post a video of your products, talk to your customers, provide them with valuable information, encourage comments and questions. Making a quality video that provides just enough information about why a product is necessary or a “how to” video, is a great way to encourage customers to your website to learn more.

A call to action is perhaps one of the most important aspects in marketing your small business. A call to action is a brief section at the end of your correspondence that encourages the reader or viewer to visit the website. Offering incentives will help encourage your audience to participate in your offer. Incentives such as “sign up for our newsletter and get 5 free tips on XXC or the more you share the more chances you have to win…” Think of incentives in a call to action as the final chance to entice traffic to your site.

If you don’t know the basics, read Google’s SEO Starter Guide first.

External link (anchor) text is the most important factor…In my experience, external link text matters way more than anything else. That is, the actual words in the links back to your sites and pages.

If you get link text right, link back sites’ pagerank matter way less. Usual SEO advice is to contentrate on link backs from high pagerank sources…However, higher pagerank links are much harder to get than lower pagerank links. And what is often missed is that if you can get even a few lower pageank sites to link back to you using the key phrases you want to rank for, you can rank highly on those search terms even with little or no high pagerank link backs.

Widgets are great strategies…they help you get link-backs from a variety of sites, often on their front pages and often on multiple pages within the sites…it doesn’t matter if they are all low pagerank sites because you can control the link text…If you do a widget, don’t forget you need that static link in it. That is, it can’t all be JavaScript.

Don’t guess search term volume. Use Google’s Keyword & Trends tools.

Select terms that convert… Ideally, don’t guess here either…

Don’t bother if you can’t get in the top 10…A good thing to do is to add one more word to the general term, so if you end up ranking well for the specific term you are helping your rankings for the more general one as well. Then if it turns out the specific one was easy (you quickly become #1), you’ve already gone part way on the general one.

Don’t pay any for any general SEO service…Note I’m not saying don’t pay anyone for SEO, because if you need basic help, a consult from someone in the know might be helpful to, for example, tell you how to re-layout your site and to explain this post to you :).

Beware of nofollow links. Nofollow links are links with a special attribute that tell search engines to ignore them. To check a link, view the source of that page in your Web browser and look for rel=nofollow in it… Don’t waste your time submitting comments and editing Wikipedia articles with your links because it won’t help you.

Don’t waste your time with Google Sitemaps...

Don’t ignore the long-tail…First, make sure you have a static site… Second, look at all the content you can produce or have produced. Can you combine it in interesting ways that people would find useful? For example, at Duck Duck Go we have category pages.

Make as flat a site hierarchy as possible. Pagerank seems to flow logarithmicly from a homepage to its internal pages. So if you have pages you want ranked highly, either you need links back to them directly or have them linked directly from your homepage…

Use directories instead of subdomains. For example, domain/blog instead of blog.domain.

Less is more. Ranking is distributed across your site, so less pages, less links on them, and less text on them will concentrate your ranking potential on what is left.

Don’t do anything black hat. You will get caught, you will not pass go, etc.

3 Simple SEO Tips For People Managing Their Own Websites

Do you manage your own website? If so, working on managing your own SEO can be very time consuming. This is not to say that it can’t be done, but sometimes SEO gets tossed to the side with other things going on in your business. To help you, I have 3 simple SEO tips that will help your efforts to stand out online.

1. Meta Tags

Meta tags are the words that you see at the top of the tab when you open up a page. They are usually the keywords that directly reflect what your business is about, and sometimes what city you are based in. This can also include the Meta Tag Description. Meta Tag Description is a short one or two sentence description that you can add into your website header. I also try to use one or two of the most searched keywords in this description to help with SEO. If you use WordPress, most themes come with preset areas for these descriptions.

2. Keyword Density

Now that you have these 4 or 5 amazing keywords that you have used in your Meta Tags, you should also be using them on your home page content. I know some of the keywords can sound sort of funny in regular everyday talk, but it really is important for you to add one or two of the keywords into your home page content for SEO purposes.

3. Copyscape

Now that you have updated your meta tags, meta description, and added keywords to your website, time to check out Copyscape. Every month or so, put your website in to the search box and see if anyone has copied your content. Or, in worst case scenario you have copied someone else’s content. This is a great tool to keep in your back pocket to ensure that someone else isn’t using what you have created.

SEO efforts do not always mean having to pay someone to do it for you. You can get your hands dirty with these three simple steps to get started. If you see your efforts paying off, and you feel that you are spending too much time on SEO, then hire out to get help.

Looking Ahead to the SEO Challenges of 2014

2013 has been a tumultuous year for content marketers and SEO whizzes. The expansion of Penguin and Panda coupled with the launch of Hummingbird has shaken up much of the conventional wisdom regarding SEO marketing and shattered many of the shortcuts and tricks used in years past. With 2014 right around the corner, take a moment to assess the previous year’s efforts and reflect on what changes may still be in the works:

Mobile Technology vs. Massive Content

Google’s constant SEO updates do more than toy with SEO marketers. Ultimately, Google wants to provide the best return link for a user’s question. This goal means that more detailed data reaches the upper echelons of search engine returns. A study done by QuickSprout founder Neil Patel found that copy that ran around 2,000 words consistently landed on the first page of search results and, anecdotally, longer copy generated better leads and more response.

In many ways, the emerging importance of mobile content runs contrary to quality, in-depth content production. Mobile users need short, snappy content that can easily be navigated on a small screen. While full blown recreation of content into smaller bites for mobile users seems time consuming and like unnecessary work, bridging the gap between emerging technology and full screen marketing is a challenge marketers will face in the coming year. SEO marketers in 2014 will need to balance the importance of in-depth content with the short attention span and small screen size of mobile users.

Embrace Google+

While Google has chosen not to disclose the exact system for ranking webpages, the importance of Google+ and Google Authorship became ever more obvious in 2013. The unique URL provided to content published on Google+ creates more backlinks to work with, and the respectability of Google Authorship increases the amount of clicks produced from a search.

Climb of Visual Media

The way Internet users are gathering and sharing information has shifted slightly in the past few years. No longer is straight content enough; instead, sites like Pinterest and Instagram deal in visual content. While this, at first, seems outside the realm of content production, marketers need to continue developing links between content and pictorials.

Topic over Keyword

Hummingbird’s release also coincided with Google’s switch to a 100 percent secure search. SEO marketers who hadn’t responded to the increasing return of “keywords (not provided)” seemed blind-sided as a longer start date was expected. Still, the launch of Hummingbird fully switched all successful SEO marketers into thinking about organic keywords and informative topics rather than trying to punch a keyword into an article 20 times.

In this new year, this switch will only become more prevalent and important. No longer will information-scarce but keyword-rich content be highly regarded. Instead, marketers will need to provide quality content that fully explores the topic without a focus on a specific word.

Guest Blogging Still Rules

Guest blogging has grown from a sometimes hobby of niche blogs to a verified SEO marketing strategy. Despite the time and effort it takes to form relationships and seek out willing participants, guest blogging will continue to grow in 2014. The importance of links for rankings and the positive results seen from expanding an audience makes guest blogging the most straightforward route to search engine success.

While the catch up game has been extensive in 2013, SEO marketers in 2014 can at least rest assured that all search engine updates are moving in a specific, easily defined direction. While past years have required marketers to relearn the game, 2014 should be a year of gentle transitions to get content more in line with the ultimate goal of providing quality information to specific user questions.

SEO Tips and Best Practices to Generate External Awareness

1. Identify Your Core Keyword Phrases

Start by identifying your top 10-15 keywords by thinking about the
phrases you wish you would show up for when people look for your
company. Think beyond your company name to specific products and
services prospective clients might be trying to find. You can use tools
like Google Free Keywords and Hubspot to help you brainstorm ideas.

For example, we specialize in event and trade show registration, but
people who don’t know us would not know to search for “Expo Logic”.
Instead, we identified opportunities to rank for services and products
people are searching for like “trade show registration” and “lead
retrieval scanner.” Focusing on service and product specific phrases has
provided a significant jump in our keyword rankings, with 24 of our
main keywords ranked in the top three, and 42 ranked in the top 10.

2. Create Compelling Content

To get the most from your SEO strategy, it’s important to know the
difference between paid and organic results. Paid ads are a good tactic
for a time sensitive campaign when you want to create quick awareness.
New product launches, holiday promotions and specials work well with
paid placement. For the long haul, it’s best to focus on organic
results.

The most effective way to improve your organic SEO is to create
compelling content around the keywords you identified in step one.
Publish regular blog posts on your site, keep your social media profiles
updated with relevant information that leads back to your site, and
develop fresh site content focused on your target phrases.

From our organic SEO efforts, we’ve doubled our Twitter followers and steadily increased the number of site visitors each month.

3. Stay Organized

The best way to stay on top of your different SEO efforts is to create an editorial calendar for your content.

Look for topic ideas by monitoring news about your industry through
Google alerts. Subscribe to your competitor’s RSS feeds to stay on top
of trending topics. Ask your sales team the top questions they hear
from prospective clients and plan to answer them in your blog. Schedule
your content out about a month in advance.

4. Monitor Your Rankings

Lastly, make sure you have a good stats system set up to monitor your
SEO success. A tool like Google Analytics or Hubspot can help you
review keyword rankings, site traffic, social media leads and other
important measures to see what SEO efforts are generating the most
awareness.

7 Basic SEO Techniques All Webmasters Must Know

Technique #1 – Optimize your title tags

Every page on your website should have its own unique title tag. However, not all title tags are created equally!

From an SEO perspective, a good title tag should:

Be no more than 70 characters (including spaces)
Include both product- or service-related keywords and your company’s brand name
Be both intriguing and informative enough to prompt search engine users to click through to your page (as title tags are typically used in the snipped displayed in the natural search results)
To see what this all looks like in real life, let’s look at a hypothetical example of how this and the following SEO techniques could be put into practice…

Suppose you run an auto body shop in San Francisco, CA. You’ve recently launched a new website which includes a page on your current specials. After conducting your keyword research, you’ve decided to target the phrase “auto body coupon,” along with location modifiers that put your website in front of consumers in your city.

In this case, a good title tag could be:

“Auto Body Coupons and Discounts | Frank's Auto - San Francisco, CA”
In addition, as you’re crafting your title tags, avoid “keyword stuffing” these important fields. Title tags that are no more than a string of all your website’s target keywords (in this example, something like “Auto Body Coupons, Auto Body Discounts, Auto Body Savings”) frustrate visitors and can lead to over-optimization penalties by the search engines.

Technique #2 – Create compelling meta descriptions
Along with your title tags, the section of every page on your website should contain a customized meta description. These brief page summaries should be no more than 150-160 characters long and should include at least one mention of your page’s target keyword phrase.

Following our previous example, your meta description could read something like this:

“Need quality auto body repair work done at a discount price? Check out the latest auto body coupon codes from Frank's Auto of San Francisco, CA.”
While meta descriptions don’t hold nearly the SEO weight that they used to, their presence in the snippets found on search engine results pages plays an important role in your site’s overall click-through rate (CTR). By writing your meta descriptions in a way that captures search users’ attention, you’ll increase the number of visitors who choose to click on your listing compared to your competitors’.

Technique #3 – Utilize keyword-rich headings
Both the title tag and meta description should be included in the section of every page on your website – but what about the rest of your page’s content?

When it comes to your pages’ body text, one of the best things you can do to improve your overall SEO value is to include
and heading tags containing your target keyword phrases in your content. Not only do the search engines place added weight on the words found in these particular tags, the visual relief they provide to your website’s readers will help them to move more efficiently through your site’s content.

Technique #4 – Add ALT tags to your images
If you choose to add images to your web pages, make sure to add ALT tags to them as well.

ALT tags originally came about to provide visually impaired website visitors using text-to-speech devises with additional information about the content on their screens. And though this initial purpose is still valid, the content found in these fields is also important when it comes to SEO.

Again, you shouldn’t “stuff” your ALT tag full of target keywords and keyword variations. Instead, use your ALT tags to clearly and accurately describe your website’s images, working in keyword phrases as they occur naturally.

Technique #5 – Create a sitemap
In the world of SEO, the search engines’ indexing programs – commonly referred to as “spiders” – play the important role of analyzing new websites (or new content added to existing websites) and adding their content to the lists of pages that can be displayed in response to user queries.

As a result, facilitating the easy movement of these spider programs throughout your own site is an important part of optimizing your content for natural search traffic.

One of the best things you can do to help the spiders index your website is to create a sitemap – a page listing links to all the other pages on your site. There are plenty of different automated tools that can generate these important pages for you, though you can always create a sitemap by hand if your site is small.

Technique #6 – Build internal links between pages

Another way to help the search engine spiders to catalogue all of your site’s pages is to create internal links that connect your different pieces of content.

As an example, instead of simply linking to your “Contact” or “About Us” page from your navigation bar, consider adding text links to these pages from within the body content found on your home page. Doing so is a great way to help your visitors find the information they’re looking for, in addition to providing a major SEO boost to your site’s content.

Technique #7 – Update your site regularly
One final SEO technique you’ll want to implement is to update your site periodically. Because the search engines’ top priority is serving up the results that will best meet their users’ needs, they prefer to share websites that contain the latest, most up-to-date information. In addition, the more content you post to your site, the more keywords your website will include – increasing your odds of generating search engine traffic.

The easiest way to make regular updating a part of your SEO strategy is to create a company blog or news section. Either one of these tools will help you to connect with your readers, while also appeasing the search engines’ desire for fresh content.

Unfortunately, implementing these seven basic SEO techniques on your website alone isn’t enough to guarantee that your site will reach the coveted top spot in the search engine results pages for your chosen keyword phrases overnight.
1. Website Content

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘Content is king’ when you are searching for any information about SEO on the net? It just happens that it’s an important strategy when it comes to any site that’s trying to do better in the search engine results. With the continuing trend in Google’s algorithms to look for original, original quality content, this should never be underestimated or ignored. Quality content does not mean good spelling or grammar either, it means content which is as informative to the visitor as possible.
The basic rule about writing high quality content is to always think of what the page you are creating is about and stay focused on the topic. Let’s say you are a hotelier and you are writing a page about one of your new services which your hotel will offer for example, a new online booking service. In this case you should stay as close to the topic of ‘online booking service’ as possible and concentrating your content on just that. Staying focused on the topic means, you do not start talking about how wonderful your hotel is and how it has wonderful views from the rooms in a thousand words and only mention the ‘online hotel booking service’ once or twice in content.
You can write about how this new online booking service to explain how it works, the benefits of using it to stay at your hotel and so on. You can of course briefly talk about what the guests will enjoy at your hotel when they book online and provide hyperlinks to pages which specifically talk about the hotel itself.
The above example and content writing tips can be applied to almost any other type of business or topic that your site is focusing on. Writing original quality content is not hard to do if you start with the right frame of mind which targets people not search engines. Always compile your content with a human reader in mind and never write to manipulate Google’s algorithms or signals because it simply doesn’t work any more, even when it did it didn’t work very well in your favour
Just think if your site contains low-quality content and just so happens to have made it to the 1st position in the Google search results. Visitors find it, click on the link in the results to visit it, they arrive to find nothing informative enough on your site or content that grabs them . The chances are, they will simply hit the back button and surf away from your site, never to return. What’s happened back there? for one thing you’ve lost a potential sale and will add another bounce to your site’s bounce rate.
In brief, always write good quality content that is written for a human to read and when writing, ask yourself, would you bookmark the page? does it contain what you were looking for? would you need to hit the back button to look for a better result. It’s hard work but once you start getting more sales or traffic, you will be glad you’ve spent the extra time on content writing.

2. Keywords & Keyphrases
Keywords For Seo When choosing the keywords for a particular page on your site, always do your research first. This means finding out what your competitors are appearing in the search results with and not what you think is the ‘magic’ keyword. The easy way to do this without spending money on software or using any online services is to run a search on Google itself. Once you have found the keyword/keyphrase that is mostly used, focus on it and include it in the content at least 3-4 times. You need to also include it in your page’s Meta title, Meta description and Meta keywords if you still want to use them.

3. Website Design
Web Design SeoAny website design is crucial to SEO as it will determine how visitors will behave and feel like once they land on your site. A badly designed site that is cluttered, has a bad colour scheme and hard to navigate around is more likely to make the visitor hit the back button to get out of there as soon as possible. Good quality website design is also important when it comes to SEO as far as the size of the pages. Filling your site with none-optimized images and an excessive number of them will only make your site bring up red flags for the Google bot. As a rule, heavy and slow loading sites are considered to be a bad user experience when it comes to how Google views your website. With much of the emphasis being based on user experience when it comes to the Google’s algorithms, a badly designed site will do less better in the results.
Here is a good free online tool called Pingdom which will help you analyze your site’s loading time and content.
Always think how a user would feel when they are made to wait a whole minute or close for your site to load and only to find they’ve been waiting for a cluttered site. Make your site’s navigation as simple and clear as possible. Avoid forcing the visitor to make an excessive amount of clicks to reach the information they were looking for in the first place. It’s fair to say that if you frustrate your visitors with navigation that’s intentionally designed to force them to pass by content they were not looking for, they will leave your site.

4. Text & Styling
Website Text SEOInclude the important keywords and keyphrases you are targeting as close as possible to the beginning of your articles and make them bold maybe two or three times. The use of heading tags is also important because they are a way that a search engine spider checks to see if your keyword is included in a page’s heading for example. This is how a search engine will verify the relevancy of what your title is about and if your keyword is included in the page’s Meta title, Meta description and in the h1 tag, it would consider your page as being a successful match and yield it in the results.
There are of course other h tags which go down to h6 with the h1 being the most important and h6 the least important. It’s worth mentioning that when using the tags, use them on your content in the same order they come without skipping any. So if you have a heading and you’ve wrapped it in the h1 tag, your next use of the tags should be the h2 and so on. This is a sign that your page’s content is well structured and organized for the visitor.
Keep your site nice and uncluttered avoiding the use of too many colours and the point for this is that once the visitor comes to your site, you want them to feel like staying. The last thing you want is for a larger percentage of your visitors to hit the back button, this is bad news for your SEO. Sites with a high bounce rate will be considered as a bad result served in the search and will suffer when they are served less in the results. A badly designed site will basically loose you traffic.

5. Hyperlinks
Anchor Text SEOThe importance of good linking methods will prove invaluable when it comes to SEO and this means traffic. A site that has good hyperlinks that points its visitors to the correct page in the least number of links will keep the visitor for longer. Anchor links as they are also known as are great for SEO when you include your keyword in them too for example, ‘Book Limousine Online’ as the hyperlink which will take the visitor to your ‘Book Limousine Online’ page. Include hyper links of your most important pages somewhere on the frontpage of your site and preferably with the exact keyword as it appears elsewhere for example in the Meta title, Meta description and of course the content of that page you are linking to.

6. Tools & Analytics
Website Analytics ToolsInstall Google Analytics to track how your site’s traffic is performing in the search results. This will help you optimize your site further if you are seeing keywords you had hoped to achieve better results with aren’t doing as well as you had hoped they would. Google Analytics will also help you find out a lot of information about how well your site’s keywords are being found and it will also give you some idea about what keywords people are finding you under.
Get yourself an account with Google Webmaster Tools which will help assess how your site is doing and help you to be informed of any trouble areas on the site. Having a Google Webmaster Tools account is also important for submitting sitemaps as you can analyze how Google is seeing your sitemap and you can also resubmit a sitemap for faster indexing after changes. Another great thing about having this account with Google is that let’s say your site is focused on serving the UK, you can actually tell Google that your site is mainly for people in the UK. The next time you run a search on google.uk for a keyword on your site, you will see the results are better than if you had searched for the same on google.com.
For more control over your SEO, I recommend you install the WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin which is one of the best tools for helping you improve your SEO. The Yoast plugin will also allow you to test how your page will be assessed by Google and point you in the right direction of how to fix wrong things.

7. Social media
Social Media And SEOAs social media sites are widely used by a huge number of people around the world, it’s crucial your business website has a profile on as many of them as possible. It’s not a must to have an account with every social media site out there but you could of course focus your efforts on the top 3 main players which are Facebook, Twitter and Google plus. By actively using these sites, not only will you be getting more traffic to your site through your online presence, you will also achieve better SEO results when it comes to the social signals.

8. Meta Tags
Social Media And SEOMeta Tags are important because they tell Google and other search engines what your site is about in a few short words or sentences. You have the Title and Description Meta tags which are the two important ones you should concentrate on. Try to place your keyword/phrase in both of those Meta tags as this will help your pages being found in the results. Be careful not to put the keyword in those tags when it’s not also included in your content, it will not work and may actually be harmful to your site’s ranking. The keywords Meta Tag is not considered to hold any value when it comes to Google but some search engines still use it and it wouldn’t do your site any harm if you do.

9. Video content
Video content and SEOTry to produce short, good quality and informative videos about your business products or services which would help drive you traffic back to your site. As you may have noticed, you will sometimes see some videos from Youtube in the Google search results. This will improve your SEO for sure as more people visit your site.

10. Engaging visitors
Engage Site Visitors SEOOnce you have done all the SEO in the world to be found in the search results, what happens when a visitors comes to your site? When a person makes it to your site, is your content good enough to keep them engaged? Is your site offering them something they were looking for? Would they come back to your site?
The above may not sound much to do with SEO but it has a lot to do with it because good content is where we started at the top of this article. So once you get a visitor, do your best to offer them content that would engage them and make them stay longer on your site. Provide good quality content which can include, videos, a blog, a forum, competitions, surveys or basically anything that they would find interesting and informative or entertaining.
